The Moving Checklist That Actually Works

Fix your moving date — mid-week and mid-month slots are cheaper and easier to book

Get your free survey done and lock the written quote

Start decluttering: sell, donate or discard what you won't take (less volume = lower cost)

If renting, give notice to your landlord and plan the deposit handover

Check school/office joining dates so the move lands with a buffer day

Begin address updates: bank, Aadhaar/utility records, deliveries, subscriptions

Arrange transfer or closure of electricity, water, gas and internet connections

Use up frozen food and part-used groceries — don't move a full fridge

Back up laptops and photograph the backs of your TV/router connections

If moving intercity, plan how pets and plants travel (they don't go in the truck)

Confirm date, arrival time and truck access with our team

Set aside an essentials bag: documents, chargers, medicines, 2 days of clothes, valuables

Empty, defrost and dry the fridge 24 hours before loading

Drain the washing machine and secure the drum lock if you have it

Get gas cylinders emptied/returned and disconnect fixed appliances

Book the service lift and gate pass in both societies if applicable

Walk the crew through the house and point out fragile or priority items

Keep your essentials bag and valuables with you, not in the truck

Check every room, loft, balcony and cupboard before the truck leaves

Take photos of meter readings and hand over keys as agreed

Match the box count with the crew and keep your copy of the inventory list

Count the boxes in against the inventory before the crew leaves

Check fragile cartons and appliances first; note any issue on the delivery sheet immediately

Set up beds and the kitchen first — everything else can wait a day

Update your new address on ID documents, bank and workplace records
