Labour for House Shifting in Bangalore: Loading, Unloading and Shifting Helpers

18 July 2026 6 min readBy the Ameer Packers & Movers team

Not every move needs the full machine. Sometimes you have a borrowed pickup and a friend with a free Saturday, and what's missing is simply muscle: two people who can get a fridge down three floors without a scratch on it or them. Labour-only shifting — helpers for loading, unloading or carrying, with no truck attached — is a real service in Bangalore, and used in the right situations it saves genuine money. Used in the wrong ones, it's the most expensive cheap decision of the move. Here's how to tell the difference.

What shifting labour costs in Bangalore

Indicative 2026 rates for trained moving crew, per session:

What you're bookingTypical rateNotes
Helper, loading or unloading₹350 – 600 / personFloors and lift access set the rate
2-helper crew, load + unload₹1,400 – 2,400Both ends of a same-day local move
Within-building furniture shifting₹800 – 1,500Heavy items between floors or rooms
Crew with dismantling/reassembly+ ₹300 – 600Beds, wardrobes; tools included

The main variables are the same three that price any move: item weight, floors, and lift access. A ground-floor-to-ground-floor session sits at the bottom of each range; a third-floor walk-up with a double-door fridge sits at the top.

When labour-only genuinely saves money

Three situations where booking just the helpers is the smart call. First, you already have the vehicle— a company-arranged truck, a friend's pickup, a tempo you've used before. Second, nothing is leaving the building: swapping bedrooms, moving a wardrobe two floors up, clearing furniture for painters. Third, one end is already handled — your goods arrive by part-load from another city and you only need unloading muscle at the Bangalore end.

The three ways it backfires

The coordination gap. A tempo hired from one place and labour from another means two parties, neither responsible for the whole job. The tempo bills waiting time while the helpers are stuck in traffic; the helpers stand idle while the tempo finds parking. The ₹800 you saved on paper leaks out in waiting charges.

The packing gap.Labour carries; it doesn't pack. If the mattress goes into an open tempo unwrapped in July, that's a monsoon gamble — the item-by-item rules in our single-item transport guide (fridge upright, drum secured, cots dismantled) still apply, and someone has to know them and bring the material.

The responsibility gap. When a wardrobe corner cracks, a street-corner helper shrugs and the tempo driver points at the helper. A booked crew from an actual moving company answers for the damage — that accountability is most of what the higher rate buys.

The crossover point: when a mini-move wins

Price a full mini-move before committing to DIY-plus-labour. By the time you're paying for a tempo, two helpers at each end and wrapping material separately, you're usually within ₹500–1,000 of a packaged small move — one price, one responsible party, materials included. For a single heavy item, a single-item service is the same idea at smaller scale. And if the budget is the whole point, the seven levers in our guide to paying less cut the bill without cutting the safety net.

Quick Answers

What does loading and unloading labour cost in Bangalore?

Trained shifting helpers run roughly ₹350–600 per person for a loading or unloading session, depending on floors, lift access and how heavy the items are. A typical 1BHK needs two helpers at each end. Untrained daily-wage labour is cheaper per head but slower and takes no responsibility for damage.

Can I book only helpers without a truck?

Yes — labour-only booking makes sense when you already have a vehicle, or you're just rearranging heavy furniture within the same building. Tell us the items and floors on WhatsApp and you'll get a fixed price for the crew alone.

Is hiring a tempo and separate labour cheaper than a mini-move package?

On paper, usually ₹500–1,000 cheaper. In practice the package often wins: one party is responsible end-to-end, the crew brings wrapping material and tools, and there's no gap where the tempo waits (on your money) because the labour is late — or vice versa.

Do shifting helpers dismantle beds and wardrobes?

Trained crews do — dismantling and reassembly is part of the job and they carry tools. Daily-wage helpers hired from a street corner generally don't, and a cot forced whole through a stairwell is how banisters and headboards get damaged.
